- Vanilla Icecream (2 cups): I used the Kroger brand vanilla bean ice cream & think it is really close to the soft serve flavor at Chick-fil-A. But any of your favorite vanilla ice cream will work, just note that some brands may alter the color and taste!
- Fresh lemon juice (1/4 cup = about 2 large lemons): Fresh lemon juice is the key here (the bottled kind has a different taste) but you could also try making this with your favorite lemonade!
- Powdered sugar (2-3 teaspoons): this will help tone down the tartness of the lemon juice. I like to use powdered sugar so it’s not gritty but you can use granulated sugar or your favorite alternative sweetener.
- Vanilla extract (1/2 teaspoon): this is optional but does enhance the overall flavor.
- Yellow food coloring: this is totally optional but if you want it to have a little more color, you can add a tiny drop of yellow food coloring.
Tip! Toss in fresh summer strawberries to make this a frozen strawberry lemonade drink! This would also work with strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries!).
How to Make Copycat Chick-fil-A Frosted Lemonade
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice in a small bowl or cup.
- Add all ingredients to a blender and blend for about 30 seconds until smooth. This is a thicker milkshake and depending on the brand of ice cream, you may need to stir halfway through.
- If needed, you can add a splash of milk or water to help it blend.
- Pour into a glass and bask in the glory of making it homemade!

Frequently Asked Questions:
Chick-fil-A makes their homemade lemonade with Sunkist lemons (which have a tangy, tart flavor!), sugar, and water. Different types of lemons yield different flavors, so the Sunkist are the key to matching the flavor! That said, I just used large lemons I had on hand and they were amazing.
According to the Chic-fil-A website, frosted lemonade does contain milk in the ice cream itself but they use lemonade (rather than additional milk) to make it a milkshake. If you want to make this dairy-free, simply use your favorite dairy-free ice cream!
Yes, as long as your ice cream is soft enough you can mix this in a large mixing bowl. Or, if you want to make a big batch of this & have a Kitchenaid mixer, you can mix it in there using the paddle attachment!
